So…remember that time you signed up for a newsletter thing because you read my work, or because you liked something I wrote on social media and took a chance, or heard me on a podcast, or because the title is a reference to a Crowded House song?
And then I stopped posting?
Yeah. So what had happened was….
I took a job as a columnist for the Baltimore Banner, which is amazing and a newsroom I thought I would never work in again. At the time, my column was much more generally pop culture, and I agreed that I would use that for my main outlet for such things. Since that pays and this, as yet, does not, I chose that.
But something interesting happened earlier this year. My column - which, I admit, had become “Things Leslie likes” got a makeover, pitching me as a more quintessential Baltimore column. There were no Black lady columnists I knew of when I was growing up, and as an adult, the ones that were my touchstones keep disappearing, like former WaPo columnist Karen Attiah (who got fired for some BS.) And as a cheerleader for my native city, it was important to represent. There was a vacuum and I was there to fill it with my pithiness and whatnot. I get to be the voice I never had.
Which is to say that my thoughts on “Project Runway,” “Summer House” and “Ride Or Die” had no home to go to….wait! I have a Substack!
So at least once a week, I’m getting the band back to together, even though it’s a one-man band. I am sorry I ignored this. I am happy to be back.
Leslie’s back. Tell a friend.

Yippee!! So nice to see you again. ❤️
Excited that your are back
